How Much Can the Chevy Traverse Tow?

The maximum Chevy Traverse towing capacity has increased dramatically over the past few years. If the Chevy towing capacity isn’t important, and you’d like to save some money, we recommend the 2019 model. If you’re set on towing, you’ll want to go for the 2020 or 2021 models. Make sure to purchase one that features the trailering package. Without the trailing package, even the 2020 and 2021 models will only tow 1,500 pounds. Compare maximum towing specs for the Traverse below:

  • 2019 Chevy Traverse Towing Capacity: 1,500 pounds
  • 2020 Chevy Traverse Towing Capacity: 5,000 pounds
  • 2021 Chevy Traverse Towing Capacity: 5,000 pounds

Chevrolet Traverse Towing Features

Now that you know how much a Chevy Traverse can tow, take a moment to learn about common towing features you find across recent model years. These packages and technologies make towing simpler and safer than ever:

  • Optional Trailering Package: In order to achieve the Chevy towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, you’ll need to purchase a used Chevy Traverse that features the towing package. This package includes all trailer hook-up equipment, as well as the heavy-duty cooling system, which keeps your Traverse from overheating when towing heavy loads.
  • Tow/Haul Mode: Switch to Tow/Haul mode through your driver mode control dial to perfect torque distribution and adjust your transmission, so it will automatically downshift during acceleration while towing. This helps to keep your handling smooth and stable, especially when traveling down hill.
  • Trailer Sway Control: This feature is included with your Stabilitrak® Electronic Stability Control System, and automatically applies brake pressure while modifying torque distribution in order to correct trailer sway.
