The rebuild continues at the 3R Racing shop in Denver, Colorado.

Robb’s Team is transforming the Toyota 86 into an endurance race car.

Robb:

Hey guys, Robb Holland back here again at 3R Racing Shop in Denver, Colorado. Talking about our Toyota GT 86 build for the race coming up here at MSR Houston. I want to walk you guys through what we’ve done, and what we’re going to. So, let’s take a look. The 2017 Toyota 86 was a flood salvage car from the Houston floods. We’ve taken this car now, and we’re at the point where we have stripped the interior. We’ve put a roll cage in there for safety of the drivers in there during the race. That’s one of the bigger modifications we’ve had to do. In order to put a roll cage in, you have to strip the entire interior from the car. That allows the guys to get in and weld the safety cage, not only to the chassis pick up points, but the points in the back as well. So, the car is 100% safe for the drivers for the race. The next step we’ve had to do is upgrade the parts to more racing specifications parts. One of the big things that we’ve done is we’ve upgraded the brakes. So, we’re now running an Alcon brake, that is a 4-Piston brake, with a massive, massive rotor in it. It will allow the car, over the 8-hour endurance race, to be maximum braking performance without overheating. The next step we’ve done is we’ve come in here to the engine. We have wanted to try and find a manual transmission car, because that’s what you need to be competitive in a race. Unfortunately, there were no manual transmission cars available at that time. So, what we’ve had to do is buy an automatic, and then what we’ve done is found another car that we’re taking the manual transmission out of and we’ve upgraded the performance of the engine. We’ve taken the stock intake off and upgraded the intake. We’ve changed the ECU tuning of the car, and we’ve now bumped, probably, an additional 20-30 Horsepower out of the car. Which I think will make us competitive with everybody else there.

Robb:

Hey, Chet! Good to see you, man.

Chet:

Good to see you as well. This is it, huh?

Robb:

This is it! Yeah, I heard you were in town. I’m glad you were able to swing by the race shop and check it out.

Chet:

Great! Looks Great.

Robb:

Yeah! We’re getting there, slowly but surely. It’s a process, but it’s like any other build you do. It always takes a little bit of time.

Chet:

So, could you tell me, how excited are you about this build and the upcoming race?

Robb:

I’m so excited about this build! I mean, there is a lot of reasons. One, because I think it is a really cool project. But the biggest thing is the fact that we’re doing this as a charity for flood relief in Houston. That makes me really happy that we can do something to give back to the city. I’m really looking forward to getting this car on track.
